About GigTaxMath

Free federal tax estimates for gig workers. No sign-up, no email, just the numbers.

Who runs this site

GigTaxMath is run by Quyen Bui.

I'm a software engineer based in Hanoi, Vietnam, with a degree in Computer Science. I built GigTaxMath because I wanted a tax calculator for gig workers that is fast, free, needs no sign-up, and is built directly from official IRS figures, with every number linked to its source.

I am a software developer, not a CPA, enrolled agent or tax attorney, and I have no professional tax credentials. What I can do is read the official IRS and Social Security Administration publications carefully, turn them into code, and test that code.

Why it exists

If you drive or deliver through an app, tax usually isn't withheld from your pay. You have to work out what to set aside yourself, and you may need to pay it in quarterly installments. GigTaxMath gives you a quick estimate: free, with no account, and with the numbers you type staying in your browser.

Every tax figure comes from an official source (irs.gov or ssa.gov), and the methodology page lists each one with a link, so you can check it yourself.

What it covers

For tax year 2026, the calculators estimate:

  • self-employment tax (Social Security and Medicare) on your gig profit;
  • the Additional Medicare Tax, if your earnings are high enough;
  • the extra federal income tax your gig income adds, after the standard deduction, the tips deduction and the qualified business income deduction;
  • what your business miles save you, and your quarterly estimated payments.

Available calculators:

What it does not cover

  • State and local taxes. Federal tax only, for now.
  • Tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Child Tax Credit.
  • Itemized deductions, investment income, and other situations the calculators don't ask about.
  • Filing. GigTaxMath doesn't prepare or file tax returns.

The full list of limitations explains why a result can differ from your actual return.

Not tax advice, not affiliated

The results are estimates for planning only. They are not tax, legal or financial advice. For advice about your own situation, talk to a qualified tax professional.

GigTaxMath is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by DoorDash, Uber or any other platform. Their names are used only to describe who a calculator is for.
